Starting heirloom Nicotiana tabacum seeds indoors.I,

Image
A simple topic, yet since it's a step on my way to establishing seedlings and a community garden here in South Los Angeles (which, by the way, I was cleared for staying here by the Los Angeles City Housing Authority for another year), where I plan to establish a small community farming initiative at what seems to be an abandoned gardening lot. The preparation and planting itself takes about half an hour. I started the small pots off with some earthworm castings from Armstrong Gardening Center. It's a high-end potting soil made completely from earthworm castings, kelp, and rock dust.  In addition, I added some previously-prepared ionic-trace-mineralized peat moss, which had been sitting out for about a week, and had, by now, started to become a much more humus-type rich soil in composition. Note the comparison between the bottom earthworm casting mixture and the top layer of peat moss that I added to the small pot. I had estimated, since peat moss is reputedly aci...

The Nicotiana seedlings are coming along nicely, in sprouting.

Image
I'm glad to see that patience has paid off in seeing my Nicotiana seeds from organicseeds.top finally sprout, during the cold season.  I potted the seeds in earthworm castings entirely (no dirt) from Armstrong's . The potting picture was kept fairly moist soggy, and not allowed to dry out at all, under the plastic cover. The long columns signify different varietals, one to a column, as you'll see that some of the cells have not sprouted, to a significant degree. Thankfully, I purchased 6-7 different varietals of heirloom Nicotiana cigar and cigarette tobacco seeds, (check out the website at the top - there's still time to plant Nicotiana in Southern California, and in cold climates, an even longer period of time to get them started and hardened, out in the cold. The days have been warm, mostly, (in the high 60's and 70's, and the night have been dire chill - jogging-comfortably weather, in the mid-to-lower 40's, with some days of rain). I can't w...

e-Smart Seed Gardening with Google Play Store Android Apps

Image
Android has a huge variety of apps for Smart Gardening on the Google Play Store. For my needs, currently, I was able to find some apps for free, one of which particularly suited my needs - charting seeds being planted in to cells of columns and rows - a 72-cell seed planting tray. I tried out My Seed Trays first, which is a good program in and of itself, although it uses date-time differentiation of planting, rather than allow me to name the individual cells, which is what I was attempting to achieve. Garden Organizer: Manager & Planner  ended up being the one I used for this planting project. Garden Organizer: Manager & Planner has a shape-and-grid-based planting and naming functionality about it, suitable, in my case, for plotting out the columns and rows of my planting tray, without having to write out with pen or marker - the names of the seeds, how many rows I was able to fill, etc. Garden Organizer: Manager & Planner: The app allows me ...

A new try at getting my seedlings started - a carbohydrate additive to the soil.

Image
I’m fortunate to have come across some rock dust, as well, which you can see, I mixed in to the seed-starter mix, at about 30-40% rock dust to 50% worm castings, and one large handful of peat moss that I infused with Concentrace minerals. The carbohydrate additive is a shot at mimicking a much more fortified seed-case|topic:nutrient environment of one of the components of a seed, in and of itself, as it would (hopefully) sprout and find that this additive - Xanthan gum, in this case, as it is a protein binder, very glycemic - [perhaps... (a guess, off-hand)], and a starch, when dry (although I’d think that it shouldn’t much dry out completely.  This particular Xanthan gum product is a fine powder when dry, and a glutinous, and very stubborn gel, when wet with water. I got several pots planted, as well as an egg crate, for starters. (As a side note, I went conventional this evening and got my way out to Armstrong’s Gardening Center, in Pasadena, CA.

Mutations of the common housefly (musca domestica).

Image
Seedlings of a visionary intelligently-designed in-vivo evolutionary assistance. A hyper-evolved instance of Musca domestica. Housefly / Scientific name Musca domestica Housefly. The housefly ( Musca domestica ) is a fly of the suborder Cyclorrhapha. It is believed to have evolved in the Cenozoic era, possibly in the Middle East, and has spread all over the world as a commensal of humans. It is the most common fly species found in houses. Wikipedia › wiki › Housefly Musca domestica - Wikipedia While it's not the first time I've come across a more beautiful, non-irritant, [seemingly] more considerate and accommotable to human tastes and disposition, I was unable to capture the first one and the second one, of a completely au[ x ]tigomous heraldry from this photographically-captured one, thanks to better fortune in life, as well as better battery-life on mobile devices. As well, given the small size ...

How to order heirloom organic cigar wrapper leaf Nicotiana Tabacum seeds from organicseeds.top

Image
Earlier, last year, (on my other blog, I detailed my interests in procuring and rendering a fine cigar tobacco. I'd searched through several different keyword combinations on Google, and I came across some good varietals, presumably under « heirloom organic nicotiana cigar wrapper leaf » as the search term.  One of the sites that I made it a point to bookmark was at organicseeds.top. https://organicseeds.top/shop/10133/desc/zimmer-spanish-heirloom-tobacco Given the exciting varietal description of the plant, I'm super excited to purchase a field « or lot » full of seeds-potentially - to grow in to what sounds like great quality cigar leaf tobacco, of which there are several types. The link is possibly a bit difficult to locate if you were to navigate the site through the home page. I may have publicised the site and link on my personal social media, but I want to share with the wider public of Google's audience the link, with which: there's a great 50% of...

I found some sod planters in the trash; it's a good sign as far as getting some seeds into dirt for planting later on in the season.

As I was out last night collecting cans, bottles, and plastics for redemption,  I came across many discarded items of clothing.  Given that they were going to be soaking wet, regardless, I decided that I could do well to pick them up and work on getting them somewhere, for some better purpose than laying out in the rain.  I came upon the notion that my recyclables bag was collecting weight over time, as I was walking about; wearing many layers of clothing, while collecting recyclables.  It seemed like some sort of Civic agreement to leave out clothing on this day.  Thanks, people!  The larger scope of the context was the weight-gaining of the energetic device of the bag of recyclables.  The bag was pitched over my shoulder, it was constantly being placed on the ground, the contents were constantly changing, it was lifeless while I was a nearby radiant heat source. It took several stops, significantly, to empty out the clothing a...

Some new seedlings to make happen! On a day when it's been promised to rain, perhaps it won't - after all, in Los Angeles today.
